VIRTUAL LEARNING
The implementation of the online programmes has been met positively as we have strived in the face of adversity to continue the education of our students; acting quickly to leverage the technology and e-learning capabilities of the Inspired group and supporting the skills required for independent learning.
A huge thank you is extended to the entire St Louis School community of students, parents, guardians, teachers and non-teaching staff for your support in making this a success.
HOW IT WORKS
At St. Louis School, the Virtual School programme will mirror the actual school day as closely as possible, including school timings.
For Nursery and Pre School Students:
As we continue to develop live online learning and teaching we have considered the learning experience and wellbeing of our youngest students. We will be offering continuous live teaching and learning provision where teaching staff are live all day with the children. Should you have any technical difficulties in accessing either of these please contact Ms. May (Colonna Campus) via infocolonna@stlouisschool.com or Ms. Warren (Caviglia Campus) via info@stlouisschool.com
This will be represented by:
- Live whole group encounters with the teacher and teaching assistant.
- Guided learning in groups led by the teacher or teaching assistant in live sessions.
- Independent exploratory learning that is scaffolded first by the teaching team in the whole class live sessions.
- Specialist lessons as routine.
The daily organisation and routine we will offer will be based on the standard school timetable. This focuses on continuous teaching from teachers and teaching assistants throughout the school day, to guarantee your child a familiar sense of belonging and continued education, as well as ensuring a workable routine for parents. The following sessions will form continuous live provision throughout the school day.
Morning Sessions:
9:30:
Live whole class morning assembly meeting with both teachers and the teaching assistant.
9:30-10:30:
Live guided learning in small groups with the teacher and/or the teaching assistant.
The other children are working concurrently on the exploratory learning opportunities offered by teachers.
Groups cross-over.
10:30-10:50:
Morning snack and break time
10:50-11:50:
Live relational whole class meeting-summing up the morning.
11:50-13:00:
Lunch time and playtime
13:00-14:45:
Sleep time
Afternoon Sessions:
14:45-15:00:
Waking up time, toilet time and time to gather together
15:00-15:30:
Live whole class relational meeting/Live guided learning in small groups with teacher or TA
15:30-15:45:
Live whole class encounter to sum up the day and prepare for the next.
All specialist lessons offered in school should be offered at the normal time during on-line learning to give the teaching team the planning time needed. While families of our youngest children may choose to be flexible in their participation of some sessions it is crucial that the school is offering the child continuous live learning with the teaching team throughout the whole school day.

For Primary School Students in Years 2 to 6:
The main portals for online interactions will be BlueJeans for live conferencing and Google Classroom where the students learning tasks, videos and texts for all subject areas will be posted. Primary students now have access to BlueJeans and Google Classroom; should you have any technical difficulties in accessing either of these please contact Ms. Chapman (Colonna Campus) via infocolonna@stlouisschool.com or Mr. Flight (Caviglia Campus) via info@stlouisschool.com
Please note that the Year 2 students and teachers are also using the Seesaw app.
All students are expected to be online and engaged in their lessons each day, participating in, and completing all the learning tasks set. Teachers will be available via infocolonna@stlouisschool.com for Colonna campus and via info@stlouisschool.com during the school day to answer questions you may have, and to give advice and feedback on the work the students complete.
For Middle School Students in Years 7-9:
The main portals for online interactions will be BlueJeans for live conferencing and Google Classroom which all Middle School students already have access to. BlueJeans is a Skype/Zoom piece of software that allows a link to be sent and to hold a class with multiple participants.
Should you have any technical difficulties in accessing Google classroom or BlueJeans, please contact Mr. Williams via awilliams@stlouisschoolapps.com (Colonna Campus) or Mr. Ingram via mingram@stlouisschoolapps.com (Caviglia Campus)
The usual school timetable for each year group will be in effect.
Expectations for learning - Middle School - Years 7 to 9
- Learning will proceed according to the existing Middle School timetable in the form of online lessons, readings and tasks posted on Google Classroom.
- Each teacher will set up work for their class on Google Classroom up to 5 minutes before the beginning of each timetabled lesson for that class.
- Students will be expected to provide feedback on the work done in that lesson, so that teachers can monitor learning. All students work should be submitted on Google Classroom by the deadline.
- Each teacher will have an online conference call with each of their classes during the course of the week and during a scheduled lesson time where this is possible.
- During the suspension of classes, teachers will be available for students to contact them with requests and queries for feedback from 8:50 to 16:00 for Middle School, Monday to Friday via Google Classroom.
- If students fail to complete online engagements for sessions where they are present, teachers will as usual record this as ‘N/A’.
Many thanks for your support in ensuring the provision above. As you will appreciate, we have worked quickly to put online arrangements in place and we ask for your patience, positivity and support if any teething problems occur. At the present time we are all active learners as we explore how to work in a new way.
