WHAT IS IGCSE?

Cambridge IGCSE is widely recognised by higher education institutions and employers around the world as evidence of academic achievement.

Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. The programme is more rigorous than the standard GCSEs and broadens opportunities for students who wish to further their education either domestically or internationally. Assessment takes place at the end of the course and includes written, oral, practical assessment and coursework.

Grades are benchmarked using eight internationally recognised grades, A* to G, which have clear guidelines to explain the standard of achievement for each grade.

The St. Louis School is the only International High School offering a full IGCSE programme in Milan.

At the end of a two-year period, your child will be assessed through standardised exams, marked by examining boards based in England. He or she will then be externally awarded an individual subject IGCSE certificate, which gives a useful benchmark of performance at age 16.

Our academic programme takes place between the hours of 8 am and 1:50 pm the students are required to follow an extra curricular programme which will involve activities over the two year period. The students may carry out these activities in the afternoons at school (2:30 to 5 pm), outside school, or even during the holidays. For each activity the students are required to record their experiences, seek a supervisor and reflect upon what they have learnt. A wide range of IGCSE subjects are available and these are grouped in curriculum categories.

*Additional Mathematics is an extra IGCSE subject that will also be followed by the high ability Mathematicians.
